Transmissions (Creation Theory) – 2026
Bee’s wax, paraffin, gauze, plaster. 110cm × 78cm × 5cm
This wax sculpture captures the connection between generations of women and the transmissions of culture and knowledge through the mother’s line. This reflects the artist’s experience of becoming a mother as an immigrant in North America and then in France, where the speaking in mother tongue with the child play an important role. Unlike the popular image of the animal-like body becoming a man with consciousness by the heavenly touch of the bearded God in Michaelangelo’s The Creation of Man/Adam, the women’s connections are uninterrupted and inseparable. The work positions the body as the important container of creation and transmission.
