The short film is based on the stories and journals written about an infamous
murderess Grace Marks, who was convicted at the age of 15.
Grace Marks (c. 1828 – after ca. 1873) was a Canadian maid who was convicted in
1843 of murder in the death of her employer Thomas Kinnear, and was suspected of murdering his housekeeper, Nancy Montgomery. Her conviction was controversial, and sparked much debate about whether Marks was actually instrumental in the murder, or merely an unwitting accessory.
The story takes place in late-Victorian era, when mysticism and superstition were
challenged by scientific approach to human psychology.
The video is divided into two parts. The first part takes place in the present, Grace Marks telling the story of her past to the psychiatrist. The second part is the actual story told by Grace in shadow animation. These two parts intertwine as the movie reaches its end.
